Brisbane

Queensland’s capital lies a few hours north of the border with New South Wales.

Straddling the banks of the Brisbane River, the city is the commercial centre of the state and an ideal centre for finding work and accommodation.
Brisbane has to be the most conveniently located of all Australia’s major cities.
It offers some of the best getaways in the country, with a whole host of stunning attractions located within a few hours of its heartland.
While this is still a major city, comparable with the likes of Melbourne and Sydney, there is a far more laidback feel to Brisbane, and the pace of life is considerably slower.
Brisbane is a relaxed, welcoming, cosmopolitan city with very friendly locals. There are plenty of attractions within Brisbane, but its crown jewel has to be the Southbank.
Unlike most east coast stops, Brisbane does not have any beaches as it sits on a river mouth.
On the Southbank, however, there is a man-made beach that looks as real as they come, even boasting a lagoon shaped pool. There’s much entertainment, with museums, a wildlife sanctuary, cafes, bars and shops, meaning this is one of the best places to hang out in town.
There are also several other parts of the city that are brimming with activity, such as the Fortitude Valley area, with its top nightclubs, bars and markets. The New Farm region is also full of great hostels and pubs.

With activities such as skydiving, climbing the famous Story Bridge – which connects the city’s two halves and taking a cruise down the Brisbane River – this is a city with plenty going on.
