The Daintree

Just a few hours drive north of Cairns in tropical north Queensland is the picture postcard setting of Cape Tribulation, which is set in the midst of the oldest rainforest in the world – the Daintree.

A visit to the Daintree is a must for anyone who has made it as far north as Cairns and is one of the most jaw-dropping destinations in the country, with its natural beauty and amazing wildlife.
This is a mind-bending place and is World Heritage listed, containing the highest number of plants and animals that are rare or facing extinction anywhere on the planet.
The most popular way to see the Daintree and its main tourist region at Cape Tribulation is through a day tour from Cairns.
However, those with a little more time can spend a few nights in the various hostels and campsites scattered around the region and get a true feel of what it’s like to live in the rainforest.
A day tour from Cairns will cost around $120 and they usually include a cruise on the Daintree River for some croc spotting and a trip into the heart of the forests.
Cape Tribulation itself is the focal point for all those that wish to see the rainforest, and it’s easy to see why. Sitting on the eastern edge of the forest, it’s a stunning spot, with the rainforest running right up to the coastline to the sandy picturesque beaches and coral-filled waters.
